pink party

speaking of little darlings…my good friend tiffani had her little zoe a few days ago. i thought i’d share some pictures of the pink party that i helped throw for her.

my friend toria thought of this idea, i just helped her make them. we used IKEA spice jars. super cheap & super darling! a great little candy jar favor for any occasion!

Rikshaw clothing

I know I blogged about Rikshaw last week, but I’m so excited that Rikshaw‘s new clothing for babes is out! Can’t wait to order some of these for my little darling.

AND she’s got new elephant pillows, twin bedding, and duvets to go with all your favorite Rikshaw baby collections. I’m saving my pennies for a taj duvet~ so cute.

The Rug Company

{Dubai store}

The other night as I was wandering the designer boutiques of the DIFC, Dubai International Financial Center, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye- the fabulous, the ultimate, the ONE & ONLY…The Rug Company~ a U.K. based, handmade rug company with designer collections from the likes of Kelly Wearstler, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marni, Paul Smith, Allegra Hicks, Neisha Crosland,Vivienne Westwood, Nina Campbell, Designers Guild, and more.

{Christoper & Suzanne Sharp and Kelly Wearstler}

I have loved The Rug Company for years…but I’ve never been in an actual store so as I walked through the doors for the first time, I had serious butterflies. It was like meeting my celebrity crush.

{Suzanne Sharp}

I texted my husband and told him the good news and he begged me not to buy a rug {its an addiction of mine but he obviously didn’t know the price point! }

{Diane von Furstenberg & Paul Smith}

I must admit that it was a bit hard not charge this one to the credit card~ I’ve been lusting after it for awhile now… isn’t it perfection?

{rug by Suzanne Sharp featured in Martha Stewart}

So I sat for over an hour, drooling over the patterns and drilling the store manager for juicy details {by the end he decided that I was a rep from London, there to test his product knowledge}!

{Vivienne Westwood}

Did you know that they’ll custom make any pattern in ANY size or colors?

My favorite designs are by Suzanne Sharp, co-founder & creative director. Also the owner’s wife. Read more about them here. They got the idea to start the company when they were making documentaries in the middle east & India!

And I’m always a sucker for the British florals of Paul Smith.

Love Marni’s collection~ so feminine & flirty

Allegra Hicks- sleek & contemporary

And they also have wallhangings & cushions~ gorgeous.

But alas, I did not leave with a rug…but I bought a catalogue/book. It’s published every 2 years and showcases the rugs in some amazing settings- so I’ll just have to flip through my book until I can actually get one of the rugs in my house:)

Thanks for being my neighbor Rug Company, we’re going to be great friends.

roman shades = happiness

{and you thought the home tour was over???}

we finally decided to have roman shades made for our living room to block the afternoon sun, so i did a semi-sheer linen with a navy blue border.

i love the result and the added touch of contrast and class that it gives the living room {and of course that it helps keep the insane Dubai heat out of our apartment}

i saved alot of money by having the romans made using IKEA panels for the semi-sheer fabric instead of having to buy yards and yards of fabric.

okay…so that really is the end of the home tour. i’ll post little projects here and there, but that’s the jist of it! thanks for all your fabulous feedback!

and WOW– can i say how thrilled i am at your comments on the giveaway? can’t wait for the drawing on the 16th!

celerie on j.crew {in case you haven’t seen it}

my friend, kera, told me about this “museworthy” feature of design heroes on j.crew {since I banned myself from the website on january 1st…i’ve been sober for 67 days}.

anyway~ celerie kemble {one of my favorite designers} is one of the muses and i just devoured her interview, so fascinating. i didn’t know that she grew up in an old church…seriously? that’s amazing. and now i have a handful of new coffee table books on my “to-buy” list since she divulged some of her latest reads.

oh, j.crew…you know just how to get me back. my shopping cart is filling up, someone HELP ME!

DIY: silhouette wall

So here’s how you do it…

step 1: take photos of your profile
step 2: in iphoto- turn them black & white and darken the contrast so you can see the outline really well

step 3: print them on photo paper {I did 5″x 7″s}
step 4: cut them out {use small, sharp scissors}

step 5: paint them with acrylic paint {and add bows, headbands, or bow ties for fun!}

step 6: frame them!

VOILA! Can you believe it’s that easy? I love seeing my little family on the wall together. It’s also just as cute to put one silhouette in a frame collage with other art and photos. So many possibilities!

*if you want BIG silhouettes, some of my friends have done lifesize silhouettes using a lamp and a canvas. just sit between the lamp and the canvas and have someone trace your silhouette for you. also pretty easy to do…and would save you the cost of printing a large size photo!

{and if you don’t want to make them yourself…you can always buy them. kirsten showed us here how many variations of silhouettes you can find on etsy!}
